For each team you accumulate the opponent’s records.
(If a team played another team twice you add their record twice) Then subtract the games against the team in question. Then you calculate the percentage value. Example: Denver opponents: Buf (4-4), Oak (2-6), Jac (5-3), Ind (7-1), SD (4-4), Pit (6-2), GB (7-1), Det (6-2). Combined record: 41-23. / 0.641 Removing the games against Denver (3-5). Combined record is 36-20. Or 0.643. Just for reference, you have the “non adjusted SoS” (just the total W/L of the opponents). This is the way the NFL calculate it for ranking purposes. STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE Code:
Team OpW/L-adjusted non-adjusted (rank) 01 Indianapolis 39-20 0.661 40-27 0.597 (03) 02 Denver 36-20 0.643 41-23 0.641 (01) 03 Chicago 35-21 0.625 40-24 0.625 (02) 04 Philadelphia 33-24 0.579 38-27 0.585 (04) 05 Tampa Bay 35-28 0.556 39-33 0.542 (08) 06 Minnesota 31-25 0.554 36-28 0.563 (06) 07 Jacksonville 32-26 0.552 35-31 0.530 (10) 07 Washington 32-26 0.552 35-31 0.530 (10) 09 New England 35-29 0.547 35-38 0.479 (20) 10 New Orleans 31-26 0.544 35-30 0.538 (09) 11 Green Bay 30-26 0.536 31-33 0.484 (19) 12 Cincinnati 31-27 0.534 37-29 0.561 (07) 12 San Diego 31-27 0.534 35-31 0.530 (10) 12 Tennessee 31-27 0.534 33-33 0.500 (16) 15 Miami 31-28 0.525 39-28 0.582 (05) 16 Buffalo 29-30 0.492 33-34 0.493 (17) 17 Atlanta 28-29 0.491 34-31 0.523 (13) 18 Dallas 27-30 0.474 28-37 0.431 (26) 19 Carolina 27-31 0.466 31-35 0.470 (22) 20 Houston 29-34 0.460 34-38 0.472 (21) 21 Kansas City 26-31 0.456 32-33 0.492 (18) 21 Oakland 26-31 0.456 30-35 0.462 (22) 21 St. Louis 26-31 0.456 34-31 0.523 (13) 24 N.Y. Behind the numbers:
Offense: Surprisingly not too much rank changes. I guess, when you’re down things move slowly. Two areas for major concern are giveaways and sacks allowed which saw a big drop after last Sunday. How are we still in the top 5 in 3rd down conversion is beyond me (?) Still with all the ‘doom n’ gloom’ there is room for optimism IMO, Only 2 weeks ago we ran 31 points over the Steelers a better defense than the Chiefs’. Defense: Green is in full control (stands for bottom 5). And with one more game like that I will run out of ink. I think it is safe to say that we are now the worst defense in the NFL Special Team / penalties: Our average Special team is maybe the only bright light this week. Although Elam went 0/1, Hall looked like a good kick returner and maybe with some luck I will live to see another Broncos’ Kick return TD. As for penalties, you have to scratch your head: Shanahan’s Broncos are always ranked in the top 5, and after another sloppy game we are now moving to double-digits ranking. Miscellaneous and other random thoughts: As I predicted last week the Colts passed us at 1st place for the toughest schedule so far. But we are still much higher than our AFCW foes. As I also predicted the Ravens are crap. They still hold last place on the SOS table, and when they finally met a team with an over .500 record the lost the game in the first quarter. I asked it last week, and yet to hear anyone agree or disagree with me (I suspect no one actually read this stuff): why aren’t we using Mike Bell on short-and-goal situations? The guy was good last year, and it isn’t like we can do much worse! Last Sunday for the first time since the new NFL structure (2002 season) the AFC West went 0-4! Congrats! Congrats also to Adrian Peterson and the Chargers who helped us lose another spot in the shameful list of teams surrendering the most rushing yards to one player in one game. We are now only in 3rd place. We can only hope that by week 17 we will not regain the top. Is it me or does our kick returner always get to the wedge before they even make one tackle? Seriously guys, run a little faster. That’s it for this week, just a quick reminder: 2002 week 7 was our last win at NarrowHead. Good luck. Last edited by DeuceOfClub; 11-07-2007 at 06:26 PM.. |
