A more immediate problem is that Zac Bowman tore his ACL and will miss the season. He had really improved throughout last season and was a sure starter. We'll need a young guy to step up big at that position.
This is horrible news. I think Bowmans back up is like a five star Jr. college recruit or somthing. but losing bowman, man that hurts.

His backup is Andre Jones a 5 star recruit and the number 4 juco recruit last year according to rivals. This now makes the entire secondary a huge question mark..... the lack of experienced depth there astounding and puts a huge damper on my optimisum going into the season. The only person that would have been a bigger loss to the team would be Zac Taylor IMO. I hope some guys step up, or things could get ugly.

On the Beck situation, I heard that Beck is still in town and will meet with Callahan tomorrow. There has been some talk about his maturity, or lack of maturity. Some insiders have mentioned that he is not very respected by his teammates, and that he cares more about his band than his football future. I hope that's not true and that they can get his head straightened out... he's got all the natural talent in the world.

*EDIT* Now the word is that Beck drove back to Florida this weekend. Not sure if/when he will meet with Callahan.

He's in a band? Oh, lord. Maybe he get Ashley Lelie to join.

I agree about Bowman. We might have a talented guy to replace him, but we are very thin in that spot and now have next to no experience there. We are set on the D-Line and Linebackers, so the D should still hold its own. We'll see alot of teams attacking the seconday me guesses.

edit- I am glad to hear bowman's replacement is a juco. hopefully the learning curve will be a little less kind of like last year with...bowman.

You gotta be ****ting me! Damn, guess I was wrong.

I'd like to know what the hell he's thinking. He's 1 year away from getting the starting job handed to him and he wants to go play somewhere else?

Whatever, best of luck to him.

Sometimes, Moms just need to keep their mouths shut.

I can't believe the kid spent nearly 2 years worshiping and being part of the Huskers only to walk away when it gets tough. I guess the coaches and the fans were wrong about him. Or not. Remember, Zac Taylor left Wake for similar reasons.

I thought Zack Taylor was a JUCO player before Nebraska?

Doesn't sound like Bill is going to tell us the dirty details, but he is gone. So long ...we hardly knew you. Not sure what the hell happened, but it sounds like it might be best if this kid was outside the spotlight for a while so he can mature. It's easy to forget these are just kids, and the pressure in a market like nebraska can be intense. I wish the best for him and hope whoever plays next year can step up.

I guess being demoted to 4th string this past weekend didn't sit well with him. From what I hear was that he wasn't participating in all the summer workouts and was still having trouble picking up the offense. Walking out on the practices this weekend was the final straw. That and having your Mommy call out Zac Taylor saying that "No offense, but my boy is the better player." Man.. I'd die of embarrassment if my Mother did something like that. Fact is if he was the better player he'd be higher up in the pecking order. Just another example that ratings for HS players are a load of crap.
The kid quit. There's no room at Nebraska for quitters.
See ya Harrison.

Zach Taylor's situation was alot different. He played one year at Wake and then transfered when they got a new coach with a rush oriented system. He basically got Joe Daily'd.

Supposedly Beck was driving around on Saturday, trying to get his head cleared, when he heard about what his mom said..... He then knew he could never go back. Thanks alot mom for the Brenda Warner-ish move, and special thanks to Steve Sipple for dragging what could have been a minor incident into major blow to the program.

OK, stop. You can NOT blame a reporter for reporting news. How is it Sipple's fault that Beck decided to act like a 12-year-old and take his ball and go home? How can it be Sipple's fault that Beck's mother doesn't know when to shut up? Come on Evenrude, you're better than that man.

Beck's mother needs to get a rooster thrown in her mouth.

As it was so eloquently said in Dazed and Confused, "Here's to your mother, Fu@k her!"

Oh, don't get me wrong, the blunt of the blame lies on Harrisions shoulders. I just think that it's a shame this couldn't have been handled internally instead of being drug out into the open by a sleazy reporter (those of you who are familiar with Sipple will concur on this). A similar thing happened to Crouch when he was battling Newcombe for the starting spot... it got taken care of and things turned out pretty well for both parties. I know that when I was 18 I made some poor decisions too......

Becks biggest mistake was probably calling Mom at home to let her know what was going on. If he hadn't Sipple wouldn't have got all those nice quotes from her and Beck would probably be running stadium steps today and the next few. But no........ Mom had to open her big mouth.

No worries though.... NU just landed another top QB recruit.
Link

I did hear that there is a late juco transfer coming in from California..... was an elite 11 QB at one time before a transfer to juco and an injury.

He was at Wake for two years, with the same coach that recruited him (Jim Grobe) with the same offense he signed up for. Wake threw for 1700 or so during his RFR and FR years. If he was seeing playing time he wouldnt have left - Same as Beck.

I don't get why people say Beck was having trouble with the offense. He managed to make it up to #2 last year. My guess is his injury caused him to fall back on the chart, and Cally didnt believe in letting people get their position back. They have to earn it. This is too bad, I thought after all the recruiting stuff this kid was N for life.

Thought I'd lob this opening salvo to our beloved and hated NU fans on the forum to kick off the smack for the 2006 season. Here's a gem of a Husker blog just for BMF

Its about the 10 worst losses in the programs history. If Tech isnt #1, someone has to die heh.

Sounds like alot of sour grapes in that blog, especially his banter about the "loss" to Missouri.

That list is crap. All of those are recent games, plus they guy writing it gave NU a loss to Mizzou in 97. NU actually lost to MU in the 70's a couple times when NU was highly ranked. Those were bad.

The worst loss in NU history is nearly any game to OU (like 79, 80, 84). The second worse was to CU in 01, because it signifie the end of the dominant era for NU. The others on the list don't don't really matter. The loss to Texas Tech 2 years ago was bad, but NU was terrible, so its not like Tech beat a top NU team. Most NU fans who understand their place in history (and not just the last 10 years) will agree. The loss to Tech last year was far worse, since NU came back and had the game won.
