Man our defense is playing good, but we need to stop giving up the big play at the crucial moment.

I was listening to the game on sirius and man I was getting frustrated. WTF is up with the fake punt?! It sounded like we were sitting on our asses out there.

Default Trend???

Anyone notice the same crap for the past couple of years? We beat the division 2 teams in the beginning of the year and then find a way to get ourselves into a mediocrity (at best) dive at the end of the year. I am getting sick of this west coast offense bull$hit! Callahan sucks! I still cannot believe we hired this Fu@k after Solilch went 9-4. Ridiculous!

The fake feild goal was so obvious it is scary.... I called it from my couch. It's a semi-long field goal into a stiff wind and the last attempt had been blocked it's three yards for a first down.... uh... you think you might want to watch for a fake?

Other than that play though I don't think you can pin that one on the coaches. Oklahoma has some great athletes and really are a top 10-15 calibur team when Peterson plays.... Nebraska is bringing in some top talent but is still behind the OUs and Texas's in the conferance.

Also... I hate to even mention this because I hate complaining about the refs and I don't know that it would have changed the outcome, but what does NU have to do to get a holding call? They lead the nation in sacks yet have very few if any holding calls all year..... and some are just way to freaking obvious to be missed. That's got to be frustrating for the players......

You're not alone bro, the announcers on Sirius said there were two blatant holding calls on the 18 yard td run after the fake.

Not that I want to fan the flames here gents, but the fans certainly have taken an ugly turn in Lincoln these days. Its a damn shame too since I've always regarded NU fans as some of the classiest (albeit snobby) fans in the college game. I've always respected the fact that they have never lowered themselves to these kinds of activities...
Lets hope these trends dont continue man...

Quote:
ROBIN WASHUT: Saturday’s fans threaten Nebraska’s reputation

October 31, 2005

There was plenty to complain about following Nebraska’s 31-24 loss to Oklahoma on Saturday.

You could start with how the Cornhuskers once again were near comatose through the entire first half of the game, a trend that has put them in overly compromising positions over the past four games.

There’s also the fact the once 4-0 Huskers have dropped three of their past four games – including consecutive home losses – to go from leading the Big 12 Conference North Division to struggling to save their bowl eligibility.

For now, though, I’m going to stay away from the problems the Huskers showed on the field on Saturday.

This one is directed at a few morons and one ridiculous gesture by NU Coach Bill Callahan that jeopardized the reputation of Nebraska football.

With 10:58 left in the fourth quarter, Oklahoma’s Kejuan Jones scored on a 17-yard swing pass to put the Sooners up 31-14.

On the play, there was a questionable “no call” on what appeared to be a holding penalty on NU cornerback Cortney Grixby.

Rather than sticking to the standard boos and occasional verbal abuse to express their displeasure with the play, a couple of fans in the student section threw a yellow referee flag onto the field in protest.

It’s never OK to throw objects onto the field, but in this one particular case, I’ll admit I chuckled a bit.

Then things just got stupid.

A handful of super sweet dudes in the student section decided to start throwing water bottles and various other items of trash onto the northeast corner of the end zone.

All in all, roughly 10 bottles and other items of trash made their way onto the field from the time Jones scored to the ensuing kickoff.

During that time, I have never been more embarrassed to be a student at the University of Nebraska.

For a fan base that considers itself the best fans in the nation, the events on Saturday made a formidable case against that title.

This wasn’t a Manchester United game, and – at least I had thought – Nebraska fans are supposed to be a little classier than a mob of drunken soccer hooligans.

What those students did on Saturday was exactly what they threw onto Tom Osborne Field – garbage.

Nebraska fans have for years put themselves on a pedestal over other Big 12 schools in that they know what it means to be fans.

After Saturday, though, you have to wonder: How much longer that reputation will be valid?

That’s not the end of story, though.

Upon seeing the debris clutter the end zone, referee Steve Usechek stormed over to Callahan and demanded he control his fans.

Callahan continued to argue the missed holding call, and the two got into a shouting and pointing match.

As Usechek turned and walked away, Callahan did something that may end up hitting him in the pocket book next week.

Livid over the argument, Callahan held out his right thumb in a fist and made a slashing gesture across his neck/upper chest area.

Now I have no idea to whom the gesture was directed toward or even what its context was, but if Big 12 officials deem that as a threat against an official, Callahan could be waist-deep in a steaming pile of trouble.

Beyond that, it would mark the second year in a row he has let his temper get the best of him against the Sooners.

We all remember the fiasco that was NU’s trip to Norman, Okla., in 2004, and Callahan’s assessment of Sooner fans as “F-ing hillbillies.”

Just like the fans that threw the water bottles on the field, Callahan needs to take a step back and get a grasp of what Nebraska football is all about.

It’s easy to throw around words like “tradition” and “integrity” when referring to Nebraska, but it’s a whole different animal to actually abide by those concepts in the wake of defeat.

It’s also easy to be great fans when you win and to applaud your opponent after they get lambasted by 40 points.

The true test is how you act in defeat.

Champions use their losses as ways to learn and improve upon their weaknesses.

The rest throw water bottles.

Sucks that those fans did that, but everyone has fools like that. Thankfully they are the minority for NU, as well as many other teams.

I dunno what the refs thought Callahan was going to do to "control his fans" though. What do they expect him to do in all honesty? He's there to coach a game, not work stadium security.

So we're just going to ignore the slashing throat gesture then? Lord knows that if another Big XII coach did that, the Nebraska faithful would be up in arms.

I am sick of hearing about how "NU Fans are the greatest in the country!" Yeah, right. Perhaps the ones in Memorial Stadium, but the ones that go to the road games are always grade A a-holes, with all their "GO BIG RED" ****, and crowing about the glory days. Probably because they can't get tickets to to go the home games, or they aren't hometown NU fans. I know alot of NU fans around here that have never set foot in Memorial stadium, they just rooted for NU when they were a kid. Probably because they were winning.

**** Nebraska.

Dude, piss off, just because some people can't make it to Lincoln makes them less of a fan?! And yes, I have been there. However, I am a fan of Nebraska and have been since I was a kid, and of course it was because they were winning, and my dad had a say in it as well, but apparently we're still fans if we're posting on here. Needless to say, if you don't like the Huskers, stay the **** off this thread. Many people here don't like them but they're not fu@king a$$holes about it either, i.e. Sooner, Master Pain. Stop being a dick.

I have no idea what the rule is on that in the NCAA, but I personally don't care if Callahan or any other coach, Big XII or not, does that. I thought it was stupid when the NFL banned that...but it's just my opinion.

However, if it is infact banned by the NCAA, then he should be dealt with according to their rules and regulations.

Saulbadguy - Sorry you had a bad experience with some Nebraska fans, but as I said in the post before, there will always be those few that are a-holes. Please don't assume that all NU fans are like that though.

Nebraska fans are some of the classiest in the Big XII...Even Stoops noted in his press conference that he and the team were not cursed at or heckled before the game.

Saul, you are a good guy, you points are always good on this board and this comment is not reflective of you personally, BUT KState has the WORST fans in the Big XII. Up until 03, you had a trophy case that consisted of nothing, but the way your bandwagon (and yes they are bandwago) fans would taunt, curse, key cars, and scream in your face, one would think you guys might have some kind of foundation to stand on.

Sooners are somewhere in the middle with Texas. And yes we do have our dumbasses, but we were selling 75K seats for 25 years...most of Kstates fans didn't even know where Manhattan was until Snyder came to town.. To most KSU fans I say "Hey, act like you have won a few." Then I remember that you haven't!

http://www.dailynebraskan.com/vnews/.../436598cd64f81

It was embarrasing for for Husker fans (the bottles on the turf).... 'tis true that we are supposed to be above that sort of behaviour and you can bet your ass that I would not have done it. I do understand the frustation though, week after week of non-calls is starting to wear on me too.... I mean point blank, obvious, in your face, game changing calls. I doubt many teams fans would not have done the same thing under the circumstances.... but we are held to a different standard with good reason. I too hope that the trend does not continue.....

As for the "throat slash", it is hard to know exactly what was meant by it... it looked more like my 5 year old throwing a fit than a threat towards anyone.....

Of course they aren't. I have no doubt if I went to Lincoln, i'd be treated with respect. Its just the large percentage of the people who go to the roadies are the ones that piss me off.

The only real disgusting thing that NU fan pulled (that I can remember) that went way beyond bad taste was the Sal Aunese thing back in '90. Whoever did might have been the lowest class idiot there ever was.

K-State fans the worst? Thats one of the first times i've heard that. I've heard about MU, KU, and CU fans, but never K-State.

Also, bandwagon is a universal term, unless you are a Cubs fan. Don't act like Blow-U doesn't have their fair share of bandwagon fans. Were you guys selling out Faglord stadium during the Blake and Shellenberger eras?

I haven't seen too many disgusting, low things pulled by Big XII fans, ever.

The Sal Aunese sign was about as low as it gets. After he died in '89, the following year, CU travelled to Lincoln for the game and some idiot fan knew that the team buses were going to be travelling past them in Nebraska and so they made a huge sign and spray painted the road as follows...

Sal is dead,
