Ya I think so too and said so when we drafted him. He is going to surprise many in this system.

OMG - I was totally thinking that when I watched the tape, I just didn't want to say anything here for fear of being, well, ripped apart. His running style totally makes me think of Davis. Guess it's a combination of his style, and his size. And you might think to yourself that could a running style be that unique. I happen to think so. There's alot of runners where if you put them in a different jersey, I would say it still looks like so and so.

I hope he is right but you have to keep these post draft interviews in perspective....kind of like offseason puff pieces.

He's not going to say Montee reminds him of Sammy Winder.

i would ****ing love that. it would be awesome to see another top back wearing #30 and doing the mile high salute.

i was trying to suggest that he was similar to TD when we took him and i commented on him being a old school ZBS running back from the good ole days.

I want the kid to bring back the mile high salute. He knows what it represents and he should be the one to revive it.

I don't see Terrell Davis, Emmett Smith is who he reminds me of. TD was more agile while Ball is bigger and stronger like Smith.

He looked way better in 11' than he did in 12'. Hopefully that's what we get with him playing in Denver. Should be fun to watch. The nice thing is we have depth at the HB position either way.

Say what? TD was 5'11" 210 lbs. Emmitt was 5'9" 210 lbs. They were very comparable in terms of size and power. And seeing as Emmitt was not a north-south, one-cut back, I'm really not sure how you think he's anything like Ball.

Russell Wilson was the QB in 2011. That helped his average.

He had a much better line and QB in '11. In 2012 opposing teams focused exclusively on stopping Ball, and he still produced better than pretty much every other back in the country.

Really? Smith has bigger and shorter legs. I just watched a Emmitt Smith highlight reel and could not see Ball at all. I know Wiki says Smith is 5'10 but you will never get me to believe that. In shoes with thick socks maybe....hahaha. I've seen him stand next to Barry Sanders and they looked about the same to me and Sanders is 5'8.

Maybe so. He just looked like he had a special bounce in his step in 11' and in 12' was more of a plodding standard Wisconsin type back. I'm not down on him, I'm just hoping the film I saw in 11' is what we get to combine with Peyton Manning in the backfield. If that's the case, we could have the steal of the draft.

Smith and TD were of similar weight during their careers. Smith varied between 210-216, TD was between 208-211.
Ball is closer in build and stature to TD than Smith.
Ball has been heavier in his career but that was when he was a frosh and soph at Wisky(he was 230-235 lbs then), he's been 214 since his breakout season.

Just be Montee Ball and be productive. TD is a hard level to reach.

2011 was his first year of dropping weight. he got annoyed by people claiming he wasn't a 3 down all purpose back so he cut weight from 230-235 to 214 so he could explode and get bigger YAC and out run guys.
he wanted to prove he was a sure fire feature back and not just a specialist.

plus as others pointed out. Wilson was the QB that season. that offense was on a whole 'nother level with Wilson under center. the OL wasn't exceptionally better than 2012 but the offense was more dynamic.
2012 his QB was trash and the offense wasn't the same threat.

In 2012 Wisconsin offense was ONLY Ball and every team had 9 in hte box to try to stop him. Their passing game was lame, but in 2011 Russell Wilson was his QB and of course they passed a lot moer and it was easier for him to rack up the yards.

Still in 2012 he averaged 5.1ypc and had a bushel of TDs as it was even when everyone on the defense was gunning mostly for him.

Here he will be a key part, but only one of many parts of an incredibly explosive offense with at most 6 to 7 defenders down low for fear of getting torched by MAnning and the Quattro Amigos (DT, Deck, Welker & King) Not to mention a few good TEs for good measure.

So both Montee and Ronnie are going find it a good deal easier to find and bust holes in a ground game that will keep the chains moving and get short yardage first downs and TDs on a regular basis.. specially with Vasquez punching those holes this year.

Ball is 217 now and usually plays from 216 to 220.

I think Ball will be a really productive back in the NFL. He and Hillman are going to make a really good young tandem for the next years.
