I don't see it this way, not even remotely... just wonder if he knows something we don't.

Champ will restructure. He's got a ton of money, he's been part of the community for a decade and he's on a team in a weak division that's built for a run. Sure he could probably sign with a dump franchise like the Jags or Bills for a bit more scratch, but what's the point? If anything, I could see him getting moved to be more of a big nickel DB that you move into the box and ball hawk shallow crossing routes digs etc.

Champ isn't really better then Harris at this point anymore. At some point is he worth what he is getting paid? I think Champ should take a big pay cut to stay and try to win a Superbowl. Broncos paid him well, he's at the end, he is missing a ring. Champ should say he will play for about 3 million a yr, use the rest to go out and get more help, win this thing.
If Champ, after how he played in playoffs, not willing to take a big pay cut to help team I then question how important winning it all is to him. |

The list of CB's that could be cut is epic. With the deep rookie class this might be a bad year to be making more then 5 million a season at CB. Eric Wright, Dunta Robinson, Carlos Rodgers, Charles Woodson, Champ Bailey, and Chris Gamble could join a pretty deep free agent class.

Champ will be with the Broncos next year. would love to see us add Revis to pair with him but it depends on the price.

I don't see how broncos can pay champ that much after his pathetic playoffs and lack of big plays last couple years. If Champ won't play for say 5-6 million I say time to bite the bullet.

No way the Jets are getting a first rounder for Revis in this market.

I would be pissed if they release Champ. Granted, his salary is a little steep, but it makes no sense to release a veteran who can still contribute at a high level when Manning's window may be 2-3 years to win a superbowl.
Ideally, I'd like to see Champ restructure his contract and move to safety. The Broncos have brought along Moore as the deep center fielder, but I think that position would be the ideal role for an aging Bailey. He gets to sit back and watch the play develop, reading route combinations and the quarterback. If not his permanent position, Bailey could play a role similar to Leonard/Bruton as the third safety. His tackling is solid and he still has the ability to be a huge playmaker for this defense. We have some young talent at corner, specifically Harris, but I think the Broncos will still look to add another corner to the roster via trade or the draft. I'm not sold on Tony Carter as the second corner, mainly because of his size. His instincts and quickness are great, but it's difficult to stop a receiver that has 6 inches on you height-wise. I would cream my pants if the Broncos could acquire Revis for a reasonable price and field Revis+Harris at corner, Carter/Bolden at nickel, Champ at FS (similar role to Moore's current role), and a solid run-support safety like Carter at SS. |

The next piece of speculative "breaking" news La Canfora gets right will be the first.

but you put Champ and Revis on the WR's, Moore at one of the safety spots and Elam at the other. secondary problem solved. and yes i know it's not that easy. |

La Confora is no Schefter. Some speculated once Schefter left NFL Network he would lose his big scoops. They tried to prop up La Confora as a suitable replacement and failed.
This is more about looking at contracts that have are a bit backloaded on aging players. Champ is technically included because he's in his mid thirties and getting paid like he's 25. |

Here is the cheapest option. Restructure Champ from $11 mill to $6mill. Move Champ to FS, Q Carter at SS, Chris Harris at LCB and Tony Carter/ 1st/ 2nd round pick at RCB. Thoughts?

Who said Bowlen was tight with money?
We carried nearly $40m of cap into the 2012 season, so that's $160m total, we left $11.5m on the table so you work out how much we spent last year. 2nd highest payroll in the NFL in 2012 |
