it's still Phillip Rivers. he is a good QB but he hasn't learned to adjust his throws and style to his WR's. he's so used to them going up and getting it during the first phase of his career and he keeps doing it regardless of if it's a good decision or not.

Exactly. And that concerns me just as much. Rivers is a very good QB, down couple years or not.

Rivers had no one to throw to. Losing Jackson hurt him because he could go up and get those back shoulder throws and run good routes.

he wasn't weaponless, he just didn't have his primary one in Jackson but Floyd was still there. he has been off for the past 3 seasons or so and either he's injured or he's slipping. a down year is one thing. he's been borderline bad for 3 years now. Heck last year in 2011 he had 4600, 27 and 20. That's not nearly as bad as people are associating him with So true. A guy like Arians could never maximize QB performance... |

I guess time will tell on Rivers, but even with that awful oline, no running game and a shaky receiving corp he ended up as the 11th rated passer in the league. I find it hard to think that any QB would succeed with what he had to work with.

my bad, 2 seasons. i kept remembering how bad they started off the 2010 season and was associating it with Rivers.
but 2011 was still bad for him, prior to 2011 he had 3 consecutive seasons of at least a 101.8 QB rating. and he's been nowhere near 100 since. he's made mistakes,he's turned the ball over and choked in games. he's been bad, though lacking a running game hurts he was an elite QB before these past two years and he's faltered into a average one the past two seasons. for a fall like that, it's horrible. |

He did a nice job in Indy this year. But why did the Steelers let him go? And he is 60 years old. Not usually the age new head coaches take the league by storm. Outside of Coughlin it's been younger guys getting it done the last several years. |

dammit, i wrong a long post pointing out Rivers issues and it didn't go through.
to shorten it, he's been well under his elite QB prime of 2008-10. that level of drop off is horrible. |

he's reverted back to that pre elite form and got worse this season compared to last. the past two seasons he's been well under his peak QB rating, as subjective as QB rating is, it shows his regression pretty effectively and notes a severe decline. part of it has to do with losing LT but he should be performing at a much higher level than he is. he's carried that team before and played much better with less overall than he has had recently. |

Chiefs hired former Packers CB Al Harris as an assistant DB coach.
Loving this coaching staff. |

He retired after 2011 and took a year off. Apparently he's always wanted to be a coach. Pretty good to have a HOF DB (Emmitt Thomas) being the lead DB coach to help you get started in the coaching ranks.

Toss in his 5 lost out of 9 and he fumbled 15 times this year and lost 7 he is a TO machine. He can play as good as any QB in the league but he can play like Mark Sanchez too. You could say the same thing about Carson Palmer too. Call me not too worried about Phyllis Rivers.
