Yeah, sounds stupid at first, but it's not really. Those numbers are shocking really ... if they're true.

Here's my breakdown: 12 road games for the last 7 SB Champs. That's 1.72 road games each - out of JUST 2 PLAYOFF GAMES! Unless a road Wild-Card berth has won the SB in that period, maybe there's one.

I suppose King might be counting the 2012 Super Bowl winner already, which ups the divider from 7 to 8, but still it's more than 1 1/2 road games for each winner.

Okay thanks for that, the numbers actually make sense now: With those two teams accounting for 6 of the 12 road wins, there's just 6 roadies left to split between the other 5 champs (6 champs if he's including the 2012 winner already).

That means these other 5 (or 6) eventual champs were seeded #2 on average, right where I'd expect SB winners to have been seeded on average. So King's story is NOT about a "lengthy pattern of low seed success," it's just the story of two SB winners that road-warriored thru 3 away games to get there. IT'S NOT EVEN THAT, the Steelers 3 wins and SB win should not factor into this because of the officiating mess.

So finally we're through the whole thing ... and come out on the other end only to conclude the thread title was right all along

You know, it's so easy to look it up:

2011: Giants won two road games as 4th seed.
2010: Packers won three road games as 6th seed.
2009: Saints played zero road games as 1st seed.
2008: Steelers played zero road games as 2nd seed.
2007: Giants played three road games as 5th seed.
2006: Colts played one road game as 3th seed.
2005: Steelers played three road games as 6th seed.

So there you have it: 12 road games played by the past 7 SB champs, nine of which came from three teams.

What’s more impressive, I think, is that out of the past 28 teams to secure a first round bye, only two were eventual SB champs.

Yep, a better explanation would have made his stat make more sense. I'm assuming that he is saying that Super Bowl winners have come from lower seeds more often over the past several years, meaning that they have had to win more road games.

When I first read the stat, my thought was "no s&*t homie, of course they're undefeated." lol
