Miller wins battle with a 250 lb Blue Marlin
Von Miller is making the most of his time here in Hawaii as one of the few rookies fortunate enough to be invited to the Pro Bowl. Miller might not be guaranteed much field time come Sunday, but he most likely already recorded his greatest accomplishment of the week when he reeled in a 250-pound blue Marlin during a deep-sea fishing trip Tuesday. “It was incredible, it was like having to fight with this thing for 40 minutes,” Miller said. “We caught a sailfish after that. It’s about 110 pounds.” So based on his battle with the Marlin, Miller said it’s fair to assume his surgically-repaired right thumb is fine. “Yeah, it’s feeling good,” Miller said. “I got a little brace and it’s feeling a lot better.” http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/01/27/mill...P11_hot_topics |

Deep sea fishing is about the most fun I have ever had. Half of the guys that I went with had a similar amount of fun, and the other half spent the entire day throwing up.

I went deep sea fishing in Costa Rica a couple of times. Always caught sailfish though, never a Marlin. Sailfish average about 90-110 lbs or so, and are an absolute blast bringing in.
I can imagine the pride Miller has right now, not to mention the bragging rights he has with his buddies. Although a pic or two would be nice, you know, just to make sure... ![]() |

While Miller is living it up at the Pro Bowl, Aldon Smith is working on bail from a DUI.
Hopefully nobody stressed that the Niners might have taken the better player... |

I did this same trip when I was younger with family and friends. Amazing fun but let's be real when you're sitting in the chair wearing a belt a 100 lb sailfish is not that hard to bring in. Marlin are supposedly feistier and at 250... yikes. Tarpon fishing on the east coast... that is serious and can last up to three hours... small flat bottom boat... just you the rod and the fish. Back then I couldn't do it but my big bro caught a 150 lber. I remember jack being pretty hard to reel in too for a smaller fish. Last edited by Chris; 01-28-2012 at 03:47 PM.. |

Never been Tarpon fishing, but have looked into it. Isn't that popular fishing in the Caribbean? |

East coast of costa rica near Nicaragua is rainforest filled with gators and other cool creatures but you get out to the sea and it's all tarpon (and sharks, lots of sharks). |

From the Vegas pics it looks like he whipped a 130 lb'er that smells even fishier.

I went out today. a nice 42 foot comfortable boat setup for fishing but also comfort. No fish but we watched a hump back whale and her cub play on or near the surface for a long time from about 100 yards away. Later coming into port we had two sea lions right on the fish deck. We fed them some live bait and got to pet them. I was a glorious day on the water. Didn't even mind getting skunked. |
