How are the chiefs even in this thread. Chiefs and Super Bowl just don't go together; unless you want to go back to super bowl 4 or whatever it was lol.

Please become a respectable franchise before pumping your chests chef fans.

Not really. We had to get through New England, first. If the conservative gameplan HAD worked, against the Ravens, it probably WOULDN'T have worked on the Patriots...

wouldn't have mattered, the play continues on a hold, and the result would be a safety either way.

Exactly. Another interesting loophole in the rule. As long as they held as long as they did (or longer), all they did was guarantee that at least one more play would occur. Even then, an offensive penalty doesn't usually extend a game so I'd be interested to see how that would be called.

I could be incorrect, and actually probably am. But, If the hold had been called, since the penalty happened on a scoring play, they could have opted to have them enforce the 10 yards on the kick. That extra 10 yards could have made the tee'd up free kick an actual viable outcome. I'm not sure that this is how it would be enforced or if even legal to do so...

That would, then, apply to every holding or intentional grounding safety that ever happened, right? I've never seen that called, though.

Also, since it happened in the course of the play, the options would've been to take the penalty (in the endzone so a safety) or the outcome of the play (safety but holding declined) so I don't think you can say they took the holding and the outcome of the play at the same time. I hope that makes sense.

Also, would there have been a 10 second runoff on a hold there?
