I really don't see this case going Manafort's way. If I understand the defense, it's not that these things didn't happen, or that they were in any way legal; it's that Gates did it all while Manafort was asleep at the wheel. So far, though, we have a mounting pile of evidence that Manafort was wide awake, issuing very specific instructions to his accountants and personally making the laundering purchases.

I don't think the state even needs to call Gates at this point. If they don't, then the defense will have to call him if they are to have any chance at all, and that probably isn't going to go very well.

There's been a lot of speculation about why Manafort hasn't already flipped. It could be that the main reason is that he hasn't been offered anything worth consideration, if at all.

Not everyone gets offered deals. Especially when (a) the evidence is overwhelming, (b) the defendant is viewed as a top target in his own right and (c) he has no information the prosecution can't produce from other sources.

Also helpful is the fact that they can nail him on state charges, outside Trump's ability to pardon.

I think we'll see a similar approach with Roger Stone. He's been an arrogant and festering source of corruption for decades. Anything less than death in prison for him would be a terrible injustice.

Yeah, Manafort's toast unless one person on the jury holds out for an innocent verdict and they can't reach a consensus

Won't work. Since the alleged collusion never happened, what could Manafort possibly expose?

Russia-gate is a total scam -- conjured up out of thin air by a handful of CIA/NSA/FBI spooks - and served up as "real" news by the presstitute US media.

Ok, nitwit........ Russia calls and tells Jr. that they have hacked HRC e mails and wants to give it to the Trump Campaign... Trump Jr. says, "Great, If it is what you say I am thrilled." Then they have the meeting...

THAT IS Literally the definition of Conspiracy to commit collusion with a hostile foreign government....

Comrade Gaffo is living in the same pathological state of denial as BibleBot.

From the guy who believes in ALL of the flimsiest conspiracies in the world. In other words, "I work for Putin, and this is what Putin wants me to say..."

BTW, sorry Steven Seagall beat you out for that promotion.

I was about to recommend the same to you, thinking it might help you to understand the "Spicoli"'reference, but then I realized "Fast Times" was probably too sophisticated for you.

Maybe something from the children's section would be more your speed?

You mean, like the 9/11 conspiracy theory that 19 Ay-rabs outsmarted the US war machine, including NORAD, orbiting US spy satellites, etc etc?

That's the wackiest conspiracy theory that ever came down the pike.

But of course that's your speed, Mr Lord of The Rings.

A recent US poll showed that only 1% of Americans are interested in Russia-gate. The remaining 99% couldn't care less. Obviously, the mass of the population has not been fooled by the neoliberal presstitute media's propaganda.

But of course, the news junkies and knee jerks around here are part of the fringe 1%.

Have you seen the recent interviews with Bin Laden's family? Bin Laden chose 15 Saudis to be in the plot in the hopes that the US would blame Saudi Arabia and then attack them, bringing down the Saud house (which was his first goal). Of course, Bush decided to invade the wrong country. I guess bin Laden couldn't have foreseen that.

Bin Laden picked 15 Saudis? Oh really?

Are you aware that the FBI refused to ID the remains of the alleged hijackers aboard Flight 93? Why not? Because they were not sure of the identities of the alleged hijackers.

As we know, after 9/11, at least 6-7 of the 19 named Ay-rabs turned up alive and well. If you don't believe me, Google it.

Now, ask yourself: If the 19 were truly dedicated fanatics prepared to die in a suicide attack, why would they go to all of the trouble to steal someone else's identity?

Obviously, they would not. This can only mean that someone else arranged 9/11. The alleged 19 hijackers were merely patsies. And some of their identities had been stolen --

This throws the entire 9/11 attack narrative in doubt.

Default BBC reported alleged hijackers still alive and well - weeks later

Hijack 'suspects' alive and well

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/1559151.stm

Another of the men named by the FBI as a hijacker in the suicide attacks on Washington and New York has turned up alive and well.

The identities of four of the 19 suspects accused of having carried out the attacks are now in doubt.

Saudi Arabian pilot Waleed Al Shehri was one of five men that the FBI said had deliberately crashed American Airlines flight 11 into the World Trade Centre on 11 September.

His photograph was released, and has since appeared in newspapers and on television around the world.

Hijacking suspects
Flight 175: Marwan Al-Shehhi, Fayez Ahmed, Mohald Alshehri, Hamza Alghamdi and Ahmed Alghamdi
Flight 11: Waleed M Alshehri, Wail Alshehri, Mohamed Atta, Abdulaziz Alomari and Satam Al Suqami
Flight 77: Khalid Al-Midhar, Majed Moqed, Nawaq Alhamzi, Salem Alhamzi and Hani Hanjour
Flight 93: Ahmed Alhaznawi, Ahmed Alnami, Ziad Jarrahi and Saeed Alghamdi
Now he is protesting his innocence from Casablanca, Morocco.

He told journalists there that he had nothing to do with the attacks on New York and Washington, and had been in Morocco when they happened. He has contacted both the Saudi and American authorities, according to Saudi press reports.

He acknowledges that he attended flight training school at Daytona Beach in the United States, and is indeed the same Waleed Al Shehri to whom the FBI has been referring.

But, he says, he left the United States in September last year, became a pilot with Saudi Arabian airlines and is currently on a further training course in Morocco.

Mistaken identity

Abdulaziz Al Omari, another of the Flight 11 hijack suspects, has also been quoted in Arab news reports.

Abdelaziz Al Omari

Abdelaziz Al Omari 'lost his passport in Denver'
He says he is an engineer with Saudi Telecoms, and that he lost his passport while studying in Denver.

Poll: 60 percent of Americans say Russia meddled in 2016 election

A majority of Americans believe Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election, according to a new Ipsos Poll, though there’s a sharp disparity along party lines.

Eighty-five percent of Democrats and 53 percent of independents say that Russia meddled in the election, while less than half of Republicans — 46 percent — share this same belief.

The poll comes as President Donald Trump faces bipartisan rebuke over his performance at a Monday summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump sided with Putin over his own intelligence agencies at a joint press conference in Helsinki, telling reporters that he didn’t “see any reason why it would be” Russia that interfered in the election. He has since walked back that statement, saying Tuesday that he misspoke at the press conference.

Yes, and by late 2002 -- 75% of Americans also believed that Saddam Hussein had WMDs and had been involved in the 9/11 attacks.

Both beliefs were false --the result of 24 X 7 brainwashing. The poll you cite is more a reflection of the propaganda system than anything.

Most Americans couldn't care less about Russia-gate.
