Cody Glenn and Marlon Lucky look and play alot like a certain running back for Denver that used to wear #30.

Quick thoughts on the game:
The good: Zac taylor- great all day except for a couple passes. Running Game-what a refreshing experience, an actual running game. All four looked solid. D-Line- After the first couple drives, it looked like La Tech would be lucky to gain a yard. The bad: 1st quarter recieving- couple dropped passes/just out of bounds plays. Red zone offense- couple turnovers kept this from being a 50+ point game. The ugly: O-line penalties- holding calls brought back a touchdown run and a 20+yard pass that would have set up 1st and goal. Secondary injuries- hopefully fluellen isn't hurt too bad, or we will be in even more trouble. Our DB's looked overmatched at times against La Tech, so that doesn't bode too well for USC. Grixby never really got burned, but he does tend to get beat on any jump ball. Safeties were out of position a couple times. Overall, a pretty good 1st game, especially compared to last year's near debacle against Maine. Secondary will be a question mark all year, and I would look for opponents to exploit it. Still, the offense, if it can avoid red zone turnovers, looks to be very good this year. Hopefully next week will serve as a chance to improve in some areas as we prepare for the showdown with the Trojans. |

The penalties on Mann didn't hurt, as they ended up scoring anyway - which shows maturity from the players that wasn't there in game 1 last year.
Flu being hurt isnt a shock. The runningbacks seemed to get better each time they carried the ball. The secondary does scare me. La Tech had one good Wr. |

With Colorado getting their asses handed to them by Montana State (
) I think it's safe to say that their fans will be pretty quiet this season. GO BIG RED! |

I know it's a week early, and I'm not trying to overlook 1-AA Nicholls State, but I think there is a certain team in california on everyones' mind.
Seconday, secondary, secondary...that's what it is going to come down to. The Bowman injury is going to hurt us in a couple weeks when we travel to USC. It will only be the second start for Booty, but he looked pretty danged comfortable by the second half of the Arkansas game yesterday. I have accepted the fact that we will be giving up a lot of points to USC. The question is whether we will be giving up 28-35 points or 42-56 points. I think our offense can put up some points of their own and could get us 30+ points. Establishing the run will be the most important thing on offense. We need to control the clock and keep their offense off the field. Make them pass underneath, take 5-6 minutes to score. And of course, don't turnover the ball. Arkansas would have led at the half if they hadn't coughed up the ball so many times. This is going to be a major test, and we'll probably lose. That being said, if our offense can produce, the front seven create some pressure, and the secondary can keep the big plays to a minimum, we have a shot. And who would have thought that two years ago. |

I wonder if Hawk is making any major changes to the offensive/defensive philosophy like Callahan had to his first year? I told them not to act like Hawk was the 2nd coming of Vince Lombardi.

Jeez guys, you know how many starving kids in the world that could have been fed instead of financing that facility
Seriously though, NU has always had top notch support on their facilities and it shows. Makes me realize that no matter what some college teams do, they will never attain those kinds of facilities. Props. By the way, I wanted to chime in here about something else. Most of you gents have been really gracious and good natured about the ribbings with rival fans. However, lately we've seen an increase in smack in rivals threads. (Ok, so its true, the Buffs lost to a Div II team, we suck ) However, I wanted to ask you gents your thoughs on keeping these threads dedicated to the fans of their clubs and not let them get to trolling threads. The way I figure it, we can keep smack posted on seperate threads and keep our team threads dedicated to the fans. Thoughts? Input?

Nebraska has a solid team this year. I don't think they have any chance against the Trojans though. I don't think they can come into the Colisseum and upset USC. The Trojans have made the Colisseum one of the toughest places to play in all of college football. I think USC wins by 14, forcing 3 turnovers. Zac Taylor has never seen a defense disguise itself as well as Pete Carroll can do it.
